​💛  Nelson's dream home ​​

​

Because he's so quiet indoors, Nelson would make an excellent apartment dog but would be equally happy in a family home with respectful children.  His only requirements are a good variety of blankets and pillows to nest in after walks and a good chew stick!   A real happy, chatty guy he loves a cuddle, a doggy-massage and a good brushing and will let you know how much he's enjoying it.  At home he's easy-peasy - quiet as a mouse, house trained, content on his own for a few hours and happily goes to his crate to sleep for 8 hours at night.  

 

If you are looking for a guard dog, Nelson is NOT your guy - he loves to sit and look out the window, but never barks anything.  He loves his walks and wants to visit with all the dogs and humans he sees.  He's good with dogs his own size, but will let the bigger ones know that even though he's small, he'll protect his human, while his tail wags like mad!  Nelson will happily ride in the car to go explore new parks and meet new people, but he can be reactive to bikes and scooters.   Nelson would love to chase squirrels and birds if he could, and is indifferent to cats.

🐾  Nelson's Story​

​This poor guy went years being neglected in a small town in California.  After he was brought to the attention of the local animal control on more than once occasion, the owners were given an ultimatum to do right by him or relinquish him.  They chose the right decision....and he was sent to SDRBC on the next rescue bus.  Nelson has patellar luxation  (loose knee caps) a common issue with small dogs and is currently awaiting surgery (once we can fund it).  His legs don't slow him down but he will need to be with an owner who can provide the time and proper procedures for rehabilitation.  After that he will need adequate exercise and weight management to make sure he stays fit.
