Tyrone (Shadow)

Available for adoption: Hi! My name is Tyrone, nickname Shadow! I'm a 1 year old, neutered, lab mix, who is 41 pounds but still thinks he is a lap dog!

I originally came to Canada with the name Tyrone, but I quickly gained the nickname Shadow. Want to know why? I love my people SO MUCH and always want to be by their side... get it? Like a shadow? I think it's a great nickname.

My foster mom says I'm a very smart boy! I learned my name quickly, have picked up all the basic commands, and walk really nicely for her on my leash (that's a little bit of a different story when my foster dad is walking me though. When he walks me all I want to do is play and explore!) I'm food motivated and love working on training.

I'm still a puppy, so I love to play, chew and get constant attention. I love fetching my ball, chewing on my kong, and tearing squeaky stuffed animals apart. I am always up for an adventure and love going for car rides and hikes as long as it means I get to be with my people. I also love other dogs!

I'm a goofy boy, and very gentle. If I get something in my mouth that is not supposed to be there, I am more than happy to let someone stick their hand in my mouth to get it out. My foster mom loves playing with my mouth and lifting my lip to see my funny little overbite. She says I remind her of a black version of Tatum The Talking Dog.

I'm doing really well with my potty training. My foster parents have me on a potty schedule. If I have to go when it's not time, I give very clear cues that I need to go for a walk. Be warned though, if you don't pay attention to my warning signs, I will lift my leg and go on the nearest thing that smells interesting to me.

I love big kids! We have a 9 year old and a 13 year old in my house and they are SO MUCH FUN! I get so excited when they get home from school. I really like adults too. If you are willing to give me a scratch on the head and tell me I'm a "good boy", I'll be your friend forever. As much as I love bigger people, little little ones freak me out. Every time I see a toddler I turn around and try to run in the opposite direction. I'm a big scaredy cat!

My ideal home would:

  • Have someone who is home with me during the day

  • Have kids ages 8 or older

  • Have another young, playful dog

  • Love to spend time outdoors, go on adventures and give me lots of outdoor time to get all my energy out

Does that sound like you? If so, I'd love to have a playdate with you! It would be so great to find a home for Christmas!

SDRBC allows a sleepover period (usually a week or two). Our goal is to make sure everyone agrees on the match.

Tyrone's adoption fee is $800.00 (incl. tax) and goes towards his neuter and blood panel including testing for heartworm and tick borne diseases, his microchip and worming.  All SDRBC dogs receive a free month of Trupanion pet insurance.

He is currently being fostered in Richmond, BC.
